The Sheldon Theatre entertains, educates and enlightens the Red Wing community, and its visitors, through the transformative power of the performing arts. It also provides a multitude of educational opportunities specifically for youth.
Since a 1988 visionary community investment in restoration, the Sheldon has been rural southeast Minnesota’s most inviting home for performance, presenting artists from our hometown, our region and our world. Annually, the Sheldon stages a full season of programming that includes a mix of music, theater, dance, comedy and family-friendly events and presents performances by the Phoenix Theatre, the Sheldon’s resident community-theater company. The Sheldon’s commitment to the growth of arts involvement at all skill levels is amplified by the Community Outreach program, which brings artists beyond the stage for workshops and performances at local schools, non-profits and senior communities. A gift to the entire community and one of the first municipally owned theaters in the country, the Sheldon takes pride in offering performances that connect with the community, presenting underrepresented artists with intention and building purposeful community partnerships.
The Red Wing Shoe Company Foundation’s financial support of this organization has exceeded $1,500,000.
